Père David's vole

Dorsal pelage is dark brown, often nearly black and the ventral pelage is gray, sometimes brown.


Lü Zhengcao

In 1985, to support the return of the critically endangered Père David's deer to China, Lü Zhengcao helped found and chair the China Milu Foundation, now known as the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation.

Smith's vole

This vole is named after Richard Gordon Smith, (1858–1918) who, after falling out with his wife, traveled the world hunting for animals and keeping a record of his travels and discoveries in eight large leather-bound diaries.

Willow Tit

This is supported by mtDNA cytochrome b sequence analysis; within Poecile, the Willow Tit is part of a group of Eurasian "typical chickadees" that includes also the Marsh Tit, Père David's Tit, and the Songar Tit (Gill et al. 2005, del Hoyo et al. 2007).

World Association of Zoos and Aquariums

Zoo-bred animals of several species listed by IUCN as “extinct in the wild” did survive in zoos and have been reintroduced to parts of their former range in recent years (Partula spp., Père David's deer EW, Scimitar-horned oryx EW).
