The 1948 Democratic National Convention was held at Convention Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from July 12 to July 14, and resulted in the nominations of President Harry S Truman for a full term and Senator Alben W. Barkley of Kentucky for Vice President in the 1948 presidential election.
Daley was also a candidate for presidential elector during the 1972 presidential election (Vermont was carried by Republican incumbent President Richard Nixon).
A march from the Washington Monument to the front lawn of the Capitol took place on April 30, where the crowd was addressed by several members of Congress and, via video, by President Bill Clinton.
During his first bid he ran for the seat held by Republican Barry Goldwater, who declined to seek a third term in order to seek the Republican Presidential nomination in 1964.
