This school currently participates in the No Child Left Behind program and was marked as the number one ranked school for their PSSA testing results in the 2009-2010 school year.
Perry participates in many mandatory standardized tests, the most important of which is the PSSA, the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment.
In 2009, the 8th grade was ranked 34th out of 141 western Pennsylvania middle schools based on three years of student academic achievement in PSSAs in: reading, math writing and one year of science.

In recent times, the school has won many awards, most notably the 2012 National Blue Ribbon Award, recognizing it as one of the best middle schools in the country and the Keystone Award for Annually Yearly Progress on the PSSA.
Since 1985, the station operated with a PSRA power of 400 watts from sign-on until sunrise, then 55 watts PSSA that allowed the station to remain on the air no more than two hours past local sundown.
