Paiania is home to the Vorres Museum of Folk and Contemporary Art, the broadcasting facilities of Greek television station Mega Channel and the training facilities of football club Panathinaikos FC.
Its territory corresponded with that of the current municipalities Acharnes, Dionysos, Kropia, Lavreotiki, Marathon, Markopoulo Mesogaias, Oropos, Paiania, Pallini (except the municipal unit Gerakas), Rafina-Pikermi, Saronikos, Spata-Artemida and Fyli.
The neighboring communities that surround the mountain are Athens, Zografou, Kaisariani, Vyronas, Ilissia (a region of Zografou), Ymittos, Ilioupoli, Argyroupoli, Elliniko, Glyfada, Voula and Vouliagmeni in the west, Varkiza, Vari, Markopoulo and Paiania to its east, and Papagou, Cholargos, Agia Paraskevi, Gerakas and Glyka Nera.
