544th Fighter Squadron

Its last assignment was to the 478th Fighter Group at Paine Field, Washington, where it was disbanded on 31 March 1944.

The squadron moved twice in the first two months of its existence, to Santa Rosa Army Air Field in December 1943, and to Paine Field in January 1944 as its parent group dispersed its component squadrons to separate bases in California, Oregon, and Washington.

Paine Field

The project, formerly known as the National Flight Interpretive Center, includes the Boeing factory tour as well as a gallery that highlights the newest developments in aviation; including both parts and components of airplanes manufactured by Airbus and Boeing.

As Alenia Aeronautica produces big fuselage parts of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in a hangar located beside an airport's apron, multiple times a month, a Boeing 747 Large Cargo Freighter, also known as Dreamlifter, lands at Taranto Grottaglie to pick up the parts and fly them to the Boeing factory at Paine Field and Boeing South Carolina at Charleston International Airport for final assembly.
