Born in Palanga, Lithuania, Andrew's immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1947.
In 1899 Petkevičaitė co-directed with Višinskis the first Lithuanian-language play Amerika pirtyje (America in a Bathhouse) in Palanga.
Jonas Žemaitis (also known under his codename Vytautas; March 15, 1909 in Palanga – November 26, 1954 in Moscow) was one of the leaders of armed resistance against the Soviet occupation in Lithuania and acknowledged as the Head of State of contemporary occupied Lithuania.
Their adversaries were unable to achieve their goal of capturing the Lithuanian sea-coast from Klaipėda to Šventoji.

Not far from Šventoji, archaeologists discovered an encampment which indicates that the area was inhabited some 5,000 years ago.

Places named Tyszkiewicz Palace, "former Tyszkiewicz Palace", Tiškevičiai Palace, and other historical properties of the family are located in Warsaw, Kraków and Vilnius, as well as in numerous towns of modern Poland, Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine (in Palanga, Kretinga, Lahojsk, Raudondvaris, Berdychiv, Biržai, Kavarskas, Deltuva, Trakai, Lentvaris, Seredžius, etc.)
The most diligent students are invited to participate in the residential sessions, of which there are three per year: in spring (in Vilnius or Kaunas), summer (in Nida) and winter (in Palanga).
The other heir of the Tiškevičiai (Tyszkiewicz) family, count Alfred Tyszkiewicz (1913–2008), Stanislaw's younger brother, was also forced to leave Lithuania during the Second World War, he donated his share of the palace to the city of Palanga.
