Romano was a member of the Board of Directors for Univision Communications between 1995 and 1998, where he was responsible for leading numerous high profile transactions, including the sale of PanAmSat to Hughes Electronics; the formation of Via Digital DTH venture for the Iberian Peninsula; and the Sky Latin America joint venture with The News Corporation, Organizacoes Globo and TCI.
In 2003, News Corporation purchased Hughes Electronic's PanAmSat division and on April 24, 2004 sold PanAmSat to a consortium of private equity firms in a leveraged buyout including Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), Carlyle Group and Providence Equity Partners for $4.3 billion.

The former PanAmSat Corporation founded in 1984 by Reynold (Rene) Anselmo, was a satellite service provider headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut.
In July 2004, PanAmSat a major creditor of TARBS applied to have the organisation placed into receivership due to a failure to pay their satellite transponder lease payments.
On September 24, 1994, then ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation (now ABS-CBN Corporation) through its newly established subsidiary ABS-CBN International signed a historic deal with the PanAmSat to bring the first trans-Pacific Asian programming service to some two million Filipino immigrants in the United States using the then-newly launched PAS 2 satellite.

- The first digital DTH pay-TV network to provide Indian Entertainment was Orbit Satellite Television and Radio Network broadcasting via Eurobird 2 (Ku band), later on Showtime Arabia a joint venture between Viacom (21% stake) and KIPCO (79% stake) started broadcasting, via PanAmSat (C band), but later switched over to Nilesat (KU band).
