Sahadeva brought under his subjection and exacted tributes from the Paundrayas (Pandyas?) and the Dravidas along with the Udrakeralas and the Andhras and the, the Kalingas and the Ushtrakarnikas, and also the delightful city of Atavi and that of the Yavanas.
Though crushed, however, they were not extinguished; a period of anarchy followed, the struggle between the Chola kings and the Mussulmans issuing in the establishment at Kanchi of an usurping Hindu dynasty which ruled till the end of the 14th century, while in 1365 a branch of the Pandyas succeeded in re-establishing itself in part of the kingdom of Madura, where it survived till 1623.
There, amongst the Pandyas, is the tirtha called the Kumaris (Kanyakumari) (3:88).
The Nayaks rulers of Tamil Nadu, as per the claims of Sargunar, imposed Deshaprashtam (ostracism) on the ancient Pandyas (Nadars), to ensure that their rise wouldn't ever happen.
He also reciprocated by fighting with Kulothunga III when the Pandyas attacked the Cholas, Ballala's sent crown prince Vira Narasimha II who fought successfully in the first war against the rampaging Pandyas and ensured victory for the Cholas.
