Papagou |
The Athens suburb of Papagou, where the Ministry of Defence is located, is named after him.
Its built-up area is now continuous with those of the neighbouring suburbs Filothei, Marousi, Vrilissia, Agia Paraskevi, Cholargos, Neo Psychiko and Psychiko.
Built examples of such connected culs-de-sac can be found in the United States (such as Radburn, New Jersey and Village Homes, California), England (such as Milton Keynes) and Greece (such as Papagou, a suburb of Athens) (see photo).
The neighboring communities that surround the mountain are Athens, Zografou, Kaisariani, Vyronas, Ilissia (a region of Zografou), Ymittos, Ilioupoli, Argyroupoli, Elliniko, Glyfada, Voula and Vouliagmeni in the west, Varkiza, Vari, Markopoulo and Paiania to its east, and Papagou, Cholargos, Agia Paraskevi, Gerakas and Glyka Nera.
The Monastery of St. John the Theologian, at the foot of Hymettus on the outskirts of Papagou and the Karea Monastery, above Messogia, were also constructed at approximately the same time.
Mesogeion Avenue passes through the municipalities (west to east) Athens, Papagou-Cholargos, Filothei-Psychiko, Chalandri, Agia Paraskevi, Glyka Nera and Gerakas.
