The murder-victim JonBenét Ramsey lies in Saint James Episcopal Cemetery in Marietta, next to the grave of her mother Patsy Ramsey and her half-sister Elizabeth Pasch Ramsey (daughter of John Bennett Ramsey and his first wife), who died in a 1992 car accident at the age of 22.

As the media centers in on the "missing child" case, the pair are inducted into a club of infamous, highly publicized characters whose loved ones have also been "taken from them by Some Puerto Rican Guy", including Gary Condit, O. J. Simpson, and John and Patricia Ramsey.
The movie presented the case in a way that strongly suggested that the John Ramsey and Patsy Ramsey, the parents of the victim, were responsible for their daughter's murder.
While initial suspicions had been that Patsy Ramsey was responsible for the murder and that John Ramsey had been protecting his wife, Smit resigned from the case after 18 months having concluded that the Ramseys were not responsible for the murder and that the Boulder Police Department had been unjustifiably pursuing the Ramseys as suspects despite DNA and other evidence that showed that some other person was responsible for the killing.
