Gaius Suetonius Paulinus, also spelled Paullinus, (fl. 1st century) was a Roman general best known as the commander who defeated the rebellion of Boudica.

360 (son of (Pontius) Paulinus, nobleman at Bordeaux, then Burdigala), and married before 390 to his wife Anicia, in turn the daughter of Quintus Clodius Hermogenianus Olybrius, Consul of Rome in 379, and wife Turrenia Anicia Juliana.
Following the marriage on 625AD which for the first time unified the whole of England, the court of Edwin descended upon Bleasby, the Trent considered to be equidistant from Kent and Northumbria, and were all baptised in the shallow waters there by the Roman priest, Paulinus, who later became the first Archbishop of York.

A commemorative stone, from the precincts of the extinct chapel of Llanwrthwl, was found at Maes Llanwrthwl (Llanwrthwl Field) with a Paulinus Adventvh | MAQVERIGH | FIUIVS.
He was educated at St Paulinus Church of England Primary School, Crayford, Kent, and then at the City of London School, London which he attended on a scholarship as a chorister at the Temple Church under choirmaster Sir George Thalben-Ball, appearing on two records made by the choir during his time there.
It was at the itinerant palace school (schola palatina) that Paulinus would stay for about ten years and make the acquaintance of other leading scholars of the age, including Peter of Pisa, Alcuin of York, Fardulf, Arno of Salzburg, Albrico, Bona, Riculph, Raefgot, Rado, Lullus, Bassinus, Fuldrad, Eginard, Adalard and Adelbert.

Paulinus was born at Premariacco, near Cividale (the Roman Forum Iulii) in the Friuli region of north-eastern Italy, probably of a Roman family, during the latter days of Lombard rule.

Meanwhile, from Charlemagne, Paulinus obtained diplomas for the free election of the future patriarchs by the cathedral chapter of Aquileia, and other privileges for his patriarchate as well as for the monastery of St. Mary in Organo, the church of St. Lawrence in Buja, and the hospitals of St. John at Cividale and St. Mary at Verona.
Although Osric, one of Edwin's successors, was converted to Christianity by Paulinus, he returned to paganism after Edwin's death.
She took her Chaplain, Paulinus north with her and converted her husband, who was baptised by Paulinus, the first Archbishop of York, in 627AD on the site where York Minster now stands.
