He won the gold at the 2002 West Asian Games and beat Pavel Andreev at the 2002 Asian Championships in Athletics to become the Asian decathlon champion.
At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Andreev competed for the second time in the men's decathlon, along with his compatriot Vitaliy Smirnov.
