Together with Rudolf Battěk he founded the Independent Socialistic Movement in Czechoslovakia.

He has been a member of the Czech Historical Club since 1947 and was able to attend lectures by Professors Jindřich Chalupecký, František Roubík, František Kutnar and Jan Patočka.

Then he was interested in history and philosophy and was fortunate to start his studies while some of the leading scholars still worked at Charles University in Prague.
