Bernard "Berend" Carp (April 17, 1901 in Sragi, Lampung, Dutch East Indies - July 22, 1966, Aerdenhout) was a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his native country at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Ostend, Belgium.
He then attended High School in Pekalongan, Central Java, and then Whitefish Bay High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on a scholarship from American Field Service International.

His reading hobby was more and more satisfied, when Taufiq became the librarian in Pelajar Islam Indonesia Pekalongan's library, where he read the works of Chairil Anwar, William Saroyan, and Karl May, besides books about history, politics, and religion.
On October 8, 1945, an anti-feudalism movement called Gerakan Tiga Daerah ("Three Regions Movement") was established in Tegal, Pekalongan, and Brebes.
