Jorge Cadete

Born in Pemba, Portuguese Mozambique, Cadete began his footballing career with Associação Academica de Santarém at age 15, scoring an amazing 43 goals in just 18 games.

Kilwa Sultanate

At the zenith of its power in the 15th century, the Kilwa Sultanate owned or claimed overlordship over the mainland cities of Malindi, Inhambane and Sofala and the island-states of Mombassa, Pemba, Zanzibar, Mafia, Comoro and Mozambique (plus numerous smaller places) - essentially what is now often referred to as the "Swahili Coast".

Niassa Company

In 1904 the Niassa Company founded the town Porto Amélia, which is presently known as Pemba, and Porto Amélia became the headquarters of the company.
