Hynson complemented well-known choral works such as Haydn's Creation and Brahms' Requiem with new and less-known choral works, such as Penderecki's Agnus Dei and Ariel Ramírez's Missa Criolla.
Penderecki's 1975 recordings of both works feature heavily on the soundtrack of the 1980 film The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick.

He was a champion of Polish contemporary music, particularly Penderecki whose Polish Requiem he recorded in 1985, and enjoyed an international reputation, giving concerts in Europe, South America, and the USA.
