During her tenure Smith worked to reinstate the former Woodhead Line between Hadfield and Penistone.

After signing for Sheffield United, Evans moved to Millhouse Green, Penistone in the nearby Barnsley area.

Sir Thomas Penistone subsequently settled in Cornwell, Oxfordshire, and sometime after 1622, he married again, to Elizabeth Watson, daughter of Sir Thomas Watson and widow of Sir William Pope.
