The Aboriginal tribe of Peramangk is thought to be the starting point of the story of the Minka Bird, who claimed that the bird lived on Mount Barker.
The Karrawatta (west) and Mutingengal (east), occupied lands to the north of Mount Barker, but somewhat south of the River Torrens.
