The park was given as a wedding present to his daughter Caliopi, by Constantin Hrisoscoleu, when she married Petrache Poenaru.
Coandă attended Elementary school at the Petrache Poenaru Communal School in Bucharest, then (1896) Began his secondary school career at the Liceu Sf. Sava (Saint Sava National College).
It is one of the three stations located near the campus of the Universitatea Politehnica Bucureşti (the other ones being Grozăveşti and Petrache Poenaru).
