Ants performing this activity include species in genera such as Camponotus, Pheidole, Crematogaster, and Pseudomyrmex.
The biology of the genus is poorly known, but three species (O. inquilinus, O. daguerrei, and O. bruchi) are suspected to be inquilines of Pheidole or Solenopsis, although the exact nature of the relationship is unclear.
Pheidole harlequina is a species of ant that was discovered and described by American biologist E. O. Wilson"E. O."
Pheidole harrisonfordi is a species of ant named after the actor Harrison Ford in honor of his work in conservation.
First described in 2013, two specimens of Pheidole loki were collected in forest leaf litter in 470 and 630 m elevation on Mt. Combani and Mt. Benara, Mayotte, where it occurs in sympatry with P. jonas.
Pheidole vulcan is known only from the slopes of the two volcanoes Mt. Karthala and La Grille, at elevations between 995 and 1125 m on Grande Comore and thus is possibly an endemic species of the island.
