In March 2010 it was reported on Digital Spy that Bet was set to make a comeback in an attempt by the newly appointed Phil Collinson producer to try to restore the show to its 'golden days'.
The storyline was left open, and both executive producer Phil Collinson and William Roache have expressed interest in revisiting the story in the future.
Producer Phil Collinson commented: "Bev has created an iconic and much-loved character in Liz. She will be greatly missed behind the bar of The Rovers by the viewers of the show. She's a lovely lady and is such a talented actress. We all wish her well in whatever she does next and we hope to see the character of Liz return sometime in the future. Plans are now being made for an exciting exit storyline for her departure next year."
In November 2011, the Daily Star revealed that Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson was planning on bringing back O'Brien and Nikki Sanderson who played Candice Stowe between 2000 and 2005 in a bid to fill the gap left by the departures of Helen Flanagan who played Rosie Webster and Katherine Kelly who played Becky McDonald.
It was announced on 25 April 2010 that Arnold's character Ashley and on-screen wife Claire, would leave the show at the end of the year after being axed by new producer Phil Collinson.
This came as part of a wider drive by new producer Phil Collinson to revive the show and improve the quality of the performers involved.
