Coach Phog Allen said that Squires in his first game “shows fine early coaching and has a lot of fire, enthusiasm and ability. If he continues to improve as he has in the past few weeks he’ll play a lot for us.”

Allen later coached in the 1952 Summer Olympics, leading the United States to the gold medal in Helsinki, Finland.

His father, William Allen, was among the 30 people who originally incorporated Jameson, Missouri in 1876 and the doctor who delivered Allen lived in Jameson.
