He is supposed to have buried between $2 and $6 million at several locations throughout the Caribbean including Pine Island, White Horse Key, Marco Island, Elliot Key and Sanibel Island, although none has ever been recovered.

It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Osborne M. Tribby, the Pharmacist's Mate in the Eastern Group of U.S. Navy Operation Highjump and an aircrewman on the PBM Mariner flight to Noville Peninsula on January 11–12, 1947, in which survivors of the December 30 PBM crash were rescued and returned to the seaplane tender Pine Island.
It is part of the Waller Independent School District and serves students from Waller, Pine Island, Prairie View, unincorporated sections of Waller County (including Fields Store), and unincorporated sections of Harris County (including Hockley).
