Some of his stories have been adapted by Ping Chong into his puppet theatre, including the 1999 Kwaidan and the 2002 OBON: Tales of Moonlight and Rain.
Cathay was set in China and used three interconnected stories to explore three eras of Chinese history: the Tang Dynasty, the Japanese invasion during World War II, and contemporary China today.

As a performer he has worked with Ping Chong, Janie Geiser, Annie B. Parson & Paul Lazar, and Jeffrey M. Jones, and directed premieres of works by Lisa Kron, Holly Hughes, Dan Froot, John C. Russell and Erik Ehn.
Members of the Playwrights' Center include nationally distinguished artists such as Lee Blessing, Ping Chong, Paula Vogel, and Jeffrey Hatcher, and the work of Center playwrights has won every major recognition the field offers, including two Pulitzers and the Tony Award.
