The parasite infects an amphibic snail (Segmentina nitidella, Segmentina hemisphaerula, Hippeutis schmackerie, Gyraulus, Lymnaea, Pila, Planorbis (Indoplanorbis)) after being released by infected feces; from this intermediate host, metacercaria infest on aquatic plants like water spinach, which are eaten raw by pigs and humans.
The shell of this exceeding small (2-4 mm) Valvata species is very flat in its coiling, and therefore it somewhat resembles a Planorbis shell.
The Bembridge marls, freshwater, estuarine and marine clays and marls (70–120 ft.) rest upon the Bembridge limestone, a freshwater pool deposit (15–25 ft.), with large land snails (Amphidromus and Helix), freshwater snails (Planorbis, Lymnaea), and the fruits of Chara.
