The ants build their nest in the Frangipani plant species Plumeria alba and Plumeria rubra.
A certain Frangipane was perfumier to Louis XIII of France, hence the common name of the flowering tropical trees that are actually in the genus Plumeria.
Others feature designs clearly inspired by patola, for example a design known as the frangipani flower (cempaka).
Its hot, dry climate is suitable for Plumeria and Bougainvillea cultivars in the outer crater, kiawe (Prosopis pallida) and koa haole (Leucaena leucocephala) trees, and four major collections organized by region (Africa, the Americas, Hawaii, Madagascar).
All other names above apply to Plumeria varieties as well, with the exception of Sonchaaphaa, which is used exclusively for this particular subvariety in Western India.
The larvae are scavengers and have been reared from dead sugarcane, dead bark of Artocarpus and other decaying vegetable matter, Plumeria, Reynoldsia and Sicana odorifera.
Though the temple is in a good condition, there is over growth of two large frangipani (Plumeria) trees over the ruined temple towers.
