In southeastern Idaho, the density of Townsend's ground squirrel burrows is highest on winterfat-Sandberg bluegrass (Poa secunda), intermediate in big sagebrush-Thurber needlegrass (Stipa thurberiana), and lowest in shadscale-Indian ricegrass (Oryzopsis hymenoides) and thread grass (Stipa comata) .
