Gaylord G. Birch (March 10, 1946 – April 14, 1996) was a drummer for the bands Santana, Cold Blood, Pointer Sisters & Herbie Hancock.
Highlights included The French Connection with Sacha Distel, The Roaring Forties with the Pointer Sisters, His & Hers with Jack Jones, Off to the Movies with David Essex and Michael York, And All That Jazz with Oscar Peterson, and two Christmas specials, one with Anthony Newley, the other with Frankie Howerd.
After Bonnie left the Pointer Sisters in 1977, Ruth, Anita and June rose to higher levels of success with singles such as "Fire" (1978), "He's So Shy" (1980), "Slow Hand" (1981) and "I'm So Excited" (1982).
Released in May 1980 as the lead single from the album Special Things, "He's So Shy"'s fusion of classic girl group pop, new-wave styled dance music and R&B proved the right combination to effect a Top Ten comeback for the Pointer Sisters, the track reaching a Billboard Hot 100 peak of #3 (R&B #10) that October.
Serious Slammin is the Pointer Sisters' 14th album in 15 years; it the last record, to date, that the group made with longtime producer Richard Perry.
