Bishop's memorial was only the third to be funded and erected by the Police Memorial Trust, and was the first to be sited outside London.
In 1991, a memorial to Codling was unveiled at the place of his death by Michael Winner, founder of the Police Memorial Trust, and the Home Secretary, Kenneth Baker.
Michael Winner, chairman of the Police Memorial Trust, also praised Beshenivsky and police officers across the country, saying: "Take them away and there's total anarchy and we are devoured by the forces of evil."
They include Insp Raymond Codling and the three officers who died in the Shepherd's Bush Murders; PC Keith Blakelock; PC Sharon Beshenivsky; and PC Ged Walker.
In 1988 the Police Memorial Trust established a stone memorial to the three officers at the site of the incident in Braybrook Street.
