Although the town of Pontfraverger-Moronvilliers was originally two separate smaller towns, Pontfaverger and Moronvilliers, they were joined together as one in 1950 after Moronvilliers was destroyed during World War I and never rebuilt.
The camp is used for military manoeuvres, and cavalry training, along with the neighbouring, 2,500 hectare, 'Camp Moronvillers'.
