3 unusual facts about Popovo


Popovo Municipality

It is named after its administrative centre - the town of Popovo.

Rusenski Lom

It is formed by the rivers Beli Lom and Cherni Lom, the former taking its source south of Razgrad and the latter southeast of Popovo.

Strazhitsa

Strazhitsa has a railway station on the Sofia-Varna railway line, located some 33 km from the railway station of Popovo and some 27 km from the railway station of Gorna Oryahovitsa.


Andrija Mirosavljević

Stefan gave the titular and supreme rule of Hum to his son Radoslav, Andrija initially held the district of Popovo with the coastal lands of Hum, including Ston.

Vjetrenica

Located in Popovo Polje in Ravno municipality, village Zavala with its old architecture and stone masonry, together with Vjetrenica cave, constitute the natural and architectural ensemble, which is in the process of being protected as National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and as such it is already placed on UNESCO Tentative List.

Zavala was part of the Serbian medieval župa (district) of Popovo, referred to in the Chronicles of the priest Dukljanin and in a deed of gift of prince Miroslav issued to the Church of St Peter in Lim at the end of the twelfth century.
