After the fall of Milošević in 2000, Predrag Bulatović took over the leadership of the SNP CG and democratised it.
On the other side, de facto leader of the unionist bloc Predrag Bulatović said at a press conference around 00:15 CEST that "his sources" informed him that 54% had voted "yes", a figure below the 55% threshold.
The coalition won these elections and had support of the majority of the Parliament, but inner conflicts and organized obstruction from the opposition under Milo Djukanovic, prevented it from succeeding in forming the government which was supposed to be led by Prime Minister candidate Predrag Bulatović.
After the poor result in the 2006 Montenegrin parliamentary election, when the number of seats won by SNP's coalition fell from 30 down to 11, Bulatović resigned from the position of party's president, along with the three vice presidents.

He was also the leader of Montenegrin opposition since 2001, and he led the Unionist block in the Montenegro Independence Referendum on 21 May 2006.
