From 18 May to 10 June 1848 he was a representative for Prenzlau in the Frankfurt Parliament.
After long hesitation, his election to mayor of Prenzlau was permitted, but limited to 12 years, rather than for life.

Freiderich (Fred) Bechly was born in Prenzlau, Brandenburg, Germany to Freiderich Johann Bechly (1807-1892) and Charlotte Beutel (1812-1876).
It starts at Prenzlauer Tor, formerly the site of a historic city gate on the road to Prenzlau, leading uphill northwards to the border with the Pankow district, where it continues as Prenzlauer Promenade.
