The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Bernard Kouchner, went to Yemen on 21 February 2009 and was received by Foreign Affairs Minister Al-Qirbi and by President Saleh.
Traditionally, United States – Yemen relations have been tepid, as the lack of strong military-to-military ties, commercial relations, and support of Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has hindered the development of strong bilateral ties.
