Oriental Powder Company

Oriental Powder Company was a gunpowder manufacturer with mills located on the Presumpscot River in Gorham and Windham, Maine.

Presumpscot River

The first Maine paper mill was built on the river at Falmouth in 1731 by General Samuel Waldo.

The river is bridged by Maine State Route 35 between Standish and Windham, near North Windham, by the North Gorham to Windham Center road between Gorham and Windham, by the Maine Central Railroad Mountain Division between North Windham and South Windham, and by U.S. Route 202 in South Windham.

Robert Trelawney

On 1 December 1631 Trelawney and his partner Moses Goodyeare were granted a patent by the Plymouth Company for a tract of land between Spurwink River and Presumpscot River and for Richmond's Island at Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

The S. D. Warren Company operates several hydroelectric dams along the course of the Presumpscot River in southern Maine, which generate electricity for its paper mill.
