Their only daughter Princess Françoise of Orléans married her first cousin Prince Robert, Duke of Chartres and became the mother of the Orléanist pretender Prince Jean, Duke of Guise.

Already in 1696, six years before, a professional female fortune teller had been arrested of black magic, although the case was never brought to trial since it was discovered that the Duke of Chartres and the marquis de Feuquieres was among her clients.
An historian, journalist and outspoken democrat, Philippe volunteered to serve as a Union Army officer in the American Civil War along with his younger brother, Prince Robert, Duke of Chartres.
With the outbreak of the American Civil War in April 1861, Chartres and his brother, Prince Philippe, Count of Paris, traveled to the United States to support the Union cause.

Chartres was eventually allowed to return to France and he died in Saint-Firmin in 1910.

Finding himself in Brussels, with his uncles Prince François and Prince Henri, Duke of Aumale, in 1870 on the declaration of the Franco-Prussian War, the Duke of Chartres immediately requested Napoleon III's government for authorisation to fight in the conflict.
