The park was officially opened on 13 October 1883, by Prince Leopold, fourth son of Queen Victoria, and his wife Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont (The Duke and Duchess of Albany).
In May 1905 HRH the Duchess of Albany visited her lady-in-waiting, Lady Knightley, at Fawsley Hall.

Emich married on 10 Aug 1950 in Rastede to Duchess Eilika of Oldenburg (b. 2 February 1928), fourth child and second daughter of Nikolaus, Hereditary Grand Duke of Oldenburg and his wife, Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont.
