The MMRDA comprises 17 members and is chaired by the Minister for Urban Development in Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan (who is also the current Chief Minister of Maharashtra).
The Mumbai Monorail was officially inaugurated on 1 February 2014 by Prithviraj Chavan, the Chief Minsiter of Maharshtra.
On 18 March 2013, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan told the Legislative Assembly that octroi would be scrapped from Mumbai and other municipal corporations in 2013.
Chavan graduated in mechanical engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and holds a Master of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
On 29 September 2012, following a meeting between Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and the Railway Board chairman Vinay Mittal, railway officials announced that a decision had been taken to alter the earlier alignment and go underground for an additional 8.5 km stretch between Bandra and Jogeshwari.
