Ars Nova has collaborated with other musicians and arts organizations in the Rocky Mountain region, including: the Kronos Quartet; Boulder Philharmonic; Colorado Music Festival; Colorado MahlerFest; Frequent Flyers Dance Company; St. Martin’s Chamber Choir; Denver Chamber Orchestra; Colorado Mormon Chorale; and the newly formed Lafayette Pro Musica chamber orchestra.
From the early 1960s onwards, Otte frequently presented contemporary experimental American composers in his Bremen radio festival pro musica nova, among them in those days completely unknown people like John Cage, David Tudor, Terry Riley, and Lamonte Young.
He was the winner of the Conductor's Prize for Outstanding Artistic Performance at the 6th Harmonie Festival 2011 in Lindenholzhausen, Germany, and the "Pro Musica Viva Maria Strecker Daelen Preis" Conductor's Prize for the Best Interpretation of a Contemporary Choral Work at the 10th International Chamber Choir Competition 2007 in Marktoberdorf, Germany.
He has since made appearances internationally in recital and with orchestras such as the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, New Symphony Orchestra of Bulgaria, Santa Fe Pro Musica, and Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
Sims later founded the Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco in 1980, Lambda Pro Musica orchestra (a now-defunct strings section), David Kelsey & Pure Trash, Varsity Drag, the FLAG Corps, and encouraged the formation of the Big Apple Corps GLBT band in New York by Nancy Corporon and The Great American Yankee Freedom Band of Los Angeles by Wayne Love.
It was co-founded in 1952, under the name Pro Musica Antiqua, by Noah Greenberg, a choral director, and Bernard Krainis, a recorder player who studied with Erich Katz.
In 1952 he was a founding member of the New York Pro Musica Antiqua ensemble, with which he appeared as soloist in works from the medieval and Renaissance periods.
