The corps' three SS panzergrenadier divisions were involved in mammoth tank battles around Prokhorovka, pushing deeper into the salient than any other unit.
Krivoshein took position in town of Oboyan, and together with 6th Tank Corps in Prokhorovka during the battle he faced the main weight of German assault, led by the top Wehrmacht panzer General Hermann Hoth.

Hausser ordered his SS-Panzerkorps to split in two, with the Totenkopf crossing the Psel River northwards and then continuing on towards the town of Prokhorovka.
