George W. Althofer OAM (1903-1993) was an Australian botanist, nurseryman, author and poet, with a special interest in the mint-bush genus Prostanthera as well as other Australian native plants, who founded the Burrendong Botanic Garden and Arboretum.
Hemigenia purpurea appears similar to certain plants of the Prostanthera genus, however it is distinguished by the thin leaves.
Prostanthera species are used as food plants by the larvae of hepialid moths of the genus Aenetus including A. eximia and A. ligniveren.
