After the Bhanwari Devi case, Vishakha and other women groups filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court of India to enforce the fundamental rights of working women under Articles 14, 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India.
In August, the father of murdered RTI activist Amit Jethwa filed a Public Interest Litigation in the High Court, which then served a show cause notice on the government for the delay in the appointment of Lokayukta.
In December 2010, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, with the petitioner asking for a ban of the song, claiming it was "indecent" and "immoral".
In August 2011, responding to a Public Interest Litigation filed by the father of the murdered RTI-activist Amit Jethwa, the High Court issued a show-cause notice to the government on the delay in appointment.
In 2007, Manohar Lal Sharma, an independent advocate, filed a public interest litigation petition in the Supreme Court alleging that Mrs Pratibha Patil was an undischarged insolvent relating to the Sant Muktabai Sugar Factory and hence disqualified to remain in the office of the presidency.
In respect of bauxite mines at Lanjigarh, Orissa, public interest litigations were filed in 2004 by Indian non-government organisations led by the People's Union for Civil Liberties to the supreme court sub-committee regarding the potential environmental impact of the mines.
Awaaz Foundation successfully filed public interest litigation to declare the Sawantwadi-Dodamarg wildlife corridor as an eco sensitive area.
