The album was produced by Ken and Jolyon Thomas, whose notable production credits (individually and together) include David Bowie, Public Image Ltd, Sigur Rós and Psychic TV.

Glossop was initially known for recording and producing new wave and punk bands such as Magazine, Public Image Ltd, The Ruts, The Skids and Penetration, but also had success working with many other artists, including Kevin Coyne, The Waterboys, Furniture, The Wonder Stuff, Frank Zappa, Paul Brady, Ian Gillan,RiTA, John Lee Hooker and Lloyd Cole.
They were, in turn, compared in various press reviews to NoMeansNo, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, dEUS, various post-punk and Rock in Opposition bands (including Die Haut, Kultivator, Zamla Mammaz, Public Image Ltd, Manna and Kraldjursanstalten) and Portishead.
"Green Calx" also contains a faint sample of the vocal from "Fodderstompf" by Public Image Ltd, as well as distortion of the opening titles of John Carpenter's 1982 film The Thing.
It has been said that they originally approached John Lydon (Public Image Ltd, Sex Pistols) for an amicable resurgence (both Atkins and Wobble did notable work in PiL) but he declined the opportunity.
Flipsides, hosted by students, featured music from over 2000 albums and artists such as Hüsker Dü, Meat Puppets, Fetchin Bones, The Replacements, P.I.L., Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper.
