5 unusual facts about Purley Way

CSL Sofas

The company has expanded steadily with sofa stores from Gateshead to the openings in 2011 in both Brent Cross, London and Purley Way, Croydon.

Museum of Croydon

The museum even includes things that the local IKEA in Purley Way sold when it first opened, such as furniture and the well-known catalogues.

Purley Way

The first opened on the Thornton Road Industrial Estate: the Queensway furniture store in 1980, MFI furniture in 1981, Payless DIY in 1983 and Do It All in 1986.

It shut down in 1984, was demolished in 1991 and an IKEA store was opened on its site.

Purley Way Lido operated from 1935 to 1980; the diving board remains in the middle of a garden centre.

A213 road

The road ends at Broad Green where many people carry on straight onto the unclassified road to reach the IKEA and Ampere Way retail park area in Purley Way.
