He attended Pwllheli county school (now Ysgol Glan y Môr) from where he won a scholarship to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, in 1910, graduating in 1914 with a first in Economics.
After taking part in a singing contest at the Butlins Holiday Camp in Pwllheli, North Wales he was offered a job there by the band leader, early British rock'n'roll star Rory Blackwell.

The single-storey cottage was externally slate-clad throughout and was situated on the left-hand (east) side when approaching the beach from the A497 Pwllheli - Porthmadog road.

After retirement in 1971, Davies moved to Caernarfon where he indulged his interest in Rugby union (he had been Life President of Liverpool University Rugby Football Club and Vice President of London Welsh RFC, and became President of Pwllheli Sports Club for ten years.
The Welshman was a named passenger train of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway that ran from London Euston Station to Holyhead with portions for Llandudno, Pwllheli and Porthmadog.
