He was educated at the Government Primary School, Qala (from 1916 to 1922), the Gozo Seminary (from 1923 to 1927), St Aloysius' College Malta (from 1928 to 1930) and the University of Malta, where he graduated Bachelor of Arts in 1934, and Doctor of Laws in 1940.

Anton Buttigieg was born in Qala, Gozo, on 19 February 1912, the third child of Salvatore and Concetta (née Falzon) Buttigieg.
It is known for being the site of a bloody 2001 Taliban uprising named the Battle of Qala-i-Jangi, in which at least 470 people were killed including CIA agent Johnny "Mike" Spann.
He attended Qala primary school, then the Lyceum in Victoria, Gozo.

The Aimaq Hazaras (Hazara-e-kala-e-nau, Hazara-e-qala-e-naw, Sunni Hazara, Aimaq-Hazara) are the Aimaq's subtribe of Hazara origin, however they are Sunni Muslims and other Hazaras are Shia Muslims.
