Anthony R. Bean (born 1957) is an Australian botanist who works at the Queensland Herbarium and Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha.

The couple had never had any children, and Mary spent the rest of her life, from the outbreak of war in the Pacific when she was evacuated from New Guinea, in Australia, most of it working at the Queensland Herbarium.

Queensland Herbarium

The history of the Herbarium as an institution starts in 1855 with the appointment of Walter Hill as Superintendent of Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens, four years before Queensland separated from New South Wales as a colony.

However, Hill’s successor as Colonial Botanist was Frederick Manson Bailey, an established botanist already in charge of the herbarium at the Queensland Museum.


Drosera falconeri

Isotype specimens, those that are duplicates of the holotype, were distributed to several herbaria, including those at the University of North Carolina, the New York Botanical Garden, the National Herbarium of New South Wales, and the Queensland Herbarium.
