These benefit concerts, organized by Smith and Bill Graham in the early years of the Clinic, included bands such as Big Brother and the Holding Company, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Ravi Shankar, George Harrison, The Charlatans, Blue Cheer, and Quicksilver Messenger Service.
The band played six shows in California, playing songs Corgan had written for the new Smashing Pumpkins album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, as well as covers of songs by The Seeds, Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground, Jethro Tull, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and others.

Gary Duncan (born Gary Ray Grubb, September 4, 1946, San Diego, California) is an American musician, once guitarist with The Brogues, then most notably with Quicksilver Messenger Service, where the complex interplay between himself and fellow-guitarist John Cipollina did much to define the unique sound of that San Francisco based band.
The original band lineup included headliners such as Jefferson Starship, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Iron Butterfly, Sky Saxon and The Seeds, and Mind Garage.
Big Brother and the Holding Company, Janis Joplin's first band, lived in Lagunitas from 1966–1967, next door to Country Joe and the Fish and the Quicksilver Messenger Service.
In 2006, they released What's Left For Kicks?, an album of cover songs from artists such as Neu!, The Kinks, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Nino Rota, Wire, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Steve Hillage, and Roy Harper, many of which had previously featured in the band's live set.
The Dead celebrated the closing as an approximately five hour long party (complete with breakfast with the audience at dawn) and invited some guests including guitarist John Cipollina of Quicksilver Messenger Service and Ken Kesey as well as actor Dan Aykroyd who provided the midnight countdown.
