Diego de Peñalosa

On March 6, 1662, during his government in New Mexico, Don Diego de Peñalosa left the province in order to find and conquer Quivira, a land that according to some legends who knew the conquerors, had abundancy riches.

In the Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston book Thunderhead, the location of Quivira is discovered to be a cliff dwelling, whereas the "gold" is found to be a highly valued gold colored, mica flecked pottery found only at the one city.
