Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, Germany, having selected their entry through a televised national final, organised by Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP).
During the '60s and the '70s, the Portuguese Army, RTP as well as foreign TV stations gathered many audiovisual information.
Two new regional channels were created in 1972, for the Portuguese archipelagos of Madeira (opening on 6 August) and the Azores (10 August).

Meanwhile, Ary participated, under a pseudonym, in the RTP Song Contest, writing the lyrics of two songs to be performed by Simone de Oliveira and Fernando Tordo.
In 1993 RTP created a telenovela titled A Banqueira do Povo ("The People's Banker") based on these events with Eunice Muñoz playing the role of the title character, in this case Dona Benta.
